No. 15 Nighthawks Defeat Carson-Newman 8-4

DAHLONEGA – The 15th-ranked University of North Georgia baseballl team earned a series win against Carson-Newman on Saturday, scoring early and often to win by a final of 8-4.
 
The Nighthawks started quicly, scoring a pair off of a Trevor Sams' double to left center in the bottom of the first. They added a third off of a Sams' sacrifice fly in the third.
 
After Carson-Newman scored a single run in the fourth, Taylor Jones hit the first pitch of the bottom half over the fence in right center to make the score 4-1.
 
Carson-Newman tied the game in the fifth with a Cade Snapp three-run shot, but the Nighthawks responded with two more in the bottom frame and never looked back.
 
NOTES
- Sams finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Jones also had three RBI and went 2-for-4.
 
- Sam Tidaback led the way at the plate for the Nighthawks, going 3-for-5 and scoring two runs.
 
- Steven Bower earned his first win of his collegiate career after pitching 5.2 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Chris Cobb earned the three-inning save, his first save of the season. He pitched 3.1 innings and struck out four.
 
- The Nighthawks have hit at least one home run in each of the four games this season.
 
- Ryan Addington led the Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-5 outing.
 
- North Georgia has won four straight in the series against the Eagles dating back to March 19, 2013, when North Georgia won 14-10 in Jefferson City.
 
- UNG is 3-1 on the year, while Carson-Newman falls to 0-3 with the loss.
 
NEXT UP
The Nighthawks go for the three-game sweep of the Eagles Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
