No. 19 Baseball Sweeps Anderson in Midweek Twin Bill

DAHLONEGA | The No. 19 University of North Georgia baseball team swept Anderson (S.C.) in a doubleheader of two seven-inning games on Wednesday afternoon, 10-1 and 5-4. The two victories extend the Nighthawks' winning streak to seven games.

Fans were treated to a combined eight home runs on the night as North Georgia hit five homers on the night, four of which came in the first game of the day including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Connor Hoover got the party started in the first inning sending a ball off the top of the center field wall and over for the first shot of the night. Joey Cecere would drive in two more runs in the second with his two-run single to center to give UNG a 3-0 lead.

After Anderson's LJ Newman answered with a solo shot in the fourth, North Georgia exploded for a seven-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to give the Nighthawks the 10-1 lead that proved final.

Blake Gaubert (5-0) picked up the complete game win for UNG allowing just three hits in his 7.0 innings of work while recording six strikeouts.

Bo Edwards provided a big home run for the Hawks in the second game as his two-run shot to right gave North Georgia a 4-1 lead, but Anderson's Brett Cash came up with an even bigger homer with his three-run blast to right in the next frame to even the score at 4-4.

After the plethora of home runs it would be an RBI single, ironically from North Georgia's biggest home run producer in Andrew Gordon to plate the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor Keinat (2-2) recorded the win in relief for UNG, tossing the last 1.1 innings without allowing any runs and only surrendering two hits.

The Nighthawks will now head to Florence, S.C., for their last road series of the season, taking on Francis Marion in a single game Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for Friday's game is set for 2 p.m.
