No. 9 Nighthawks Split Doubleheader with Flames

DAHLONEGA | The No. 9 University of North Georgia softball team split a pair of games with Lee on Thursday afternoon at Hill Stadium in the team's final non-conference match of the season. The Nighthawks took game one, 3-0, before falling in the second game, 7-5. UNG is now 19-5 on the season.

Despite the loss in game two, the North Georgia pitching staff did not give up an earned run on the day.

Game One
North Georgia manufactured a run in the bottom of the second without even recording a hit. Katie Block drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and then got to third on a Victoria Prince groundout to third. That's when Ansley Phillips collected a RBI on a groundout to short, to give UNG an early 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Tiffanie Burns picked up an RBI double to left scoring Kim McMillan from second. After advancing to third on a groundout, Burns would come home to score on a sacrifice fly from Block to give North Georgia the 3-0 lead that proved final.

Courtney Poole (13-1) collected the win for the Nighthawks striking out 10 in the complete-game victory.

McMillan led the offense in game one, batting a perfect 2-for-2 with a double.

Game Two
North Georgia dug a hole that the team could not climb out of in the second game of the day with seven unearned runs crossing the plate for Lee on five UNG errors in the first two innings.

The Nighthawks scored five unanswered runs after going down 7-0, but couldn't complete the comeback.  UNG was able to plate three in the fifth inning but left the tying run on the bases.

Meagan Stover (5-2) was tagged with the loss allowing seven unearned runs on six hits. The senior struck out seven in 5.0 innings of work.

Meagan May was the lone Nighthawk to record multiple hits in the nightcap, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.  Block added a double and scored twice.
