DAHLONEGA | The North Georgia men's basketball team outlasted Georgia College (7-5, 1-2 Peach Belt) in Saturday's overtime affair taking down the Bobcats, 87-81. The victory – in front of a crowd of 879 – advances the Nighthawks to 9-1 on the season, while UNG remains perfect in conference play.
Senior guard
Travis Core led the Nighthawks with 16 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field. Freshman guard
Tyler Dominy posted a career-high 12 rebounds, while
T.J. Williams and
Michael Varrichione each collected four blocks.
After both teams made long runs in the first half, the second period featured eight lead changes ultimately ending regulation in a tie, 74-74.
North Georgia only led by two in the final 10 seconds of the overtime period, but
Travis Core made two free throws following a Bobcats foul and then Core intercepted the inbounds pass from GC's Alex Reid and collected another pair of free throws following an intentional foul that put the Bobcats away for good.
The Nighthawks return to action Monday traveling to Young Harris looking to advance the UNG cause in the Battle for Blood Mountain. Tipoff for the men's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
