Richard Simmons is entering his seventh year as Assistant Coach with the University of North Georgia men’s basketball program in 2015-16. Simmons brings 40 years of coaching experience to the staff, including stops at Pineville High School in Pineville, W.Va., and Hilliard High School in Hilliard, Fla., before coming to Georgia for coaching positions at Morrow High School and Lovejoy Middle School in Clayton County.
During his coaching career, Simmons collected an overall record of 395-194, while leading his teams to a pair of state tournament runner-up finishes, 11 state tournaments, 11 region championship, and seven regional runner-up appearances.
Simmons has coached 28 all-state players, while 67 of his players received collegiate basketball scholarships, and one player is continuing his professional career overseas.
At Concord University, Simmons earned First-Team All-Conference honors in baseball and basketball in 1965 and 1966, before completing his undergraduate degree and receiving his graduate degree from the University of West Georgia.
Simmons and his wife Deb reside in Dahlonega and have three children, Lori, Sean, and Matthew.
