Constructed in 1960, Memorial Hall enters its 45th year as the home of North Georgia basketball and much more ranging from athletics to education. In addition to basketball, Memorial Hall also houses the athletic department administrative and coaches offices, Physical Education Department, athletic training rooms, strength & conditioning room and a 25-meter long swimming pool, which is part of the Department of Recreational Sports.
The gymnasium itself consists of chair-back seating for 1,025 fans and has the capability to expand with on-floor seating to host audiences of over 2,500. In the first full year as the University of North Georgia, Memorial Hall unveiled a resurfaced floor embedded with the new Nighthawks logo. In addition, there has also been a new modern era Daktronics scoreboard installed to help enhance the game day experience.
On January 24, 2015, the playing surface in Memorial Hall was
officially renamed to honor long-time men's basketball coach and athletic director Bill Ensley. Ensley is one of the most recognizable names in the history of North Georgia athletics. He served as director of athletics for 24 years and re-established the men's basketball program in 1971, serving as the head coach for 18 years, in which he never saw a losing season. He was inducted into the inaugural North Georgia Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
