DAHLONEGA -- The Peach Belt Conference named No. 1 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's golf junior Colby Bennett the PBC Men's Golfer of the Week Monday afternoon.

Bennett posted three rounds of even-par or better at UNG's 4th Annual Mizuno Intercollegiate last week.

The junior opened the tournament with a bogey-free 70 followed by a 5-under 67 on Monday.

On Tuesday, he closed with an even 72 to finish the event at 7-under and in a tie for first place and force a playoff for individual medalist honors.

The T-1 finish marked Bennett's best finish at a tournament in his career and his second top-five finish ever.

This is the first time Bennett has been named PBC Men's Golfer of the Week in his career. UNG has now had at least one player earn the conference's weekly award in each of the last five seasons.

Bennett and the Nighthawks are in competition right now in the 11th Annual Hurricane Invitational hosted by Georgia Southwestern. he Nighthawks have had major success in the Hurricane Invitational of late having won three consecutive team titles along with another victory at the event in 2016. Play concludes at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Ga. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 23 as North Georgia looks for it's fourth straight victory in the event.
