DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball sophomore left-handed pitcher
Luke Earnhardt has been named as the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week after leading the Nighthawks to a win in game two of a three-game series against Lander over the weekend.
Earnhardt stifled the Bearcats in a 7-3 win on Saturday to put UNG in first place in the Peach Belt Conference.
He threw over 100 pitches in his 7.2 innings of work against Lander, allowing seven scattered hits, just two runs and one walk while striking out six Bearcat batters.
The outing marked Earnhardt's sixth start this season with at least 5.0 innings pitched, less than three earned runs, less than three walks and three or more strikeouts. He's recorded six or more Ks in four of those appearances.
With the win, Earnhardt is now 6-0 on the season and the only unbeaten pitcher in the conference with six or more victories. He's one of only 11 pitchers nationally to remain undefeated with six-plus victories this season.
The lefty ranks third in the league this year with a 3.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He ranks seventh in the PBC with a 3.66 earned run average while also ranking seventh with 44 strikeouts and 12 walks allowed in total.
Earnhardt and the Nighthawks are back in action this week on Wednesday, March 26 in Salisbury, N.C. for a non-conference showdown with No. 5 Catawba. First pitch against the Indians is set for 4 p.m.
The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner being treated to a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A loves to give back to the local area and is proud to be a community partner with UNG Athletics.
Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
