DAHLONEGA -- University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball redshirt junior first baseman
Phillip Ard has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Ard had another dominant week at the plate as the Nighthawks went 3-1 in four games against No. 20 Young Harris and USC Beaufort.
Ard went 4-for-17 (.235) with a double, two home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored. He recorded at least one RBI in every game of the week and tallied six RBI in one day of a doubleheader sweep of USC Beaufort.
The Cochran, Ga. native leads the Peach Belt with 10 homers on the season and sits atop the RBI leaderboard by a wide margin (14 RBI) with 48 on the season. Ard is the national leader in RBI this season as well having batted in a runner in 20 of UNG's 26 games this year.
He is the fourth Nighthawk to win a fifth weekly award already this season for UNG. This week marks Ard's second time winning the award and first time this season.Â
Ard and the Nighthawks are back in action this weekend with a three-game home series against Lander beginning on Friday, March 21 at 6 p.m. from Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
