Four Nighthawks Earn Scholastic All-America Honors For Third Straight Year

7/1/2024 4:59:00 PM

DAHLONEGA – For the third consecutive season, the University of North Georgia women's golf team had a foursome of players named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Scholastic All-America teams. The WGCA announced its teams Monday afternoon as freshman Camryn Wright, junior Lainey Panter, senior Danielle Humphrey and graduate student Amari Smith all found themselves on the list for the Nighthawks.

The quartet of selections this year adds to UNG's program total of 36 scholastic all-americans in the last 11 years. Under head coach Sierra Campbell, the Nighthawks have had at least three or more players earn a spot on the WGCA Scholastic All-America list in all five seasons since Campbell arrived in 2019.

For Humphrey and Panter, this year's selection comes as the third in back-to-back-to-back years for the pairing. For Humphrey, she penned her name to the Scholastic All-American list in all four years of her career in Dahlonega.

Wright has begun to compile the academic honors early in her career. Just last month, the freshman was named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction. On the course for Wright, who played in five events in her first collegiate season, her best finish of the year came at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate in October. There she finished with a final round 79 to crack the top-35 of the tournament. Wright is studying Business Administration currently.

For Panter, this national honor comes as the sixth academic honor of her career. Last year Panter was a Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar and a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar while also winning the 2023 D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. The Marketing student was also a WGCA All-American Scholar in 2022.

Smith, a 2023-24 PBC All-Conference First Team selection for her efforts on the course, has also earned her second Scholastic All-America selection this year. A recent graduate with a Master's in Business Administration, Smith also accepted the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award last year. Smith was the leading scorer this season for the Nighthawks, posting an average total of 75.4 strokes per round. She finished in the top-10 twice this year, highlighted by a T7 finish in the Meredith Insurance Fall Kickoff in September.
