ANDERSON, S.C. – The University of North Georgia women's track & field team had a historic day Saturday at the Electric City Invitational in Anderson, S.C. Namely junior Ella Stoudenmire was the one rewriting history for the Nighthawks in the event hosted by Anderson.
Stoudenmire was the only UNG runner to make the podium in the entire meet. She finished in second place in the women's 800-meter race on Saturday, marking her fifth appearance on the podium this year and third in the 800-meter event.
She made the podium this time in historic fashion.
Shooting for a record that has stood since 2017, Stoudenmire broke the UNG women's track & field 800-meter all-time record with a 2:12.27 on Saturday. She dethroned Brittany Truitt's 2:12.45 record that has stood since the Peach Belt Conference Championships seven years ago.
Stoudenmire and the Nighthawks will now get ready for a Division I meet in the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, Apr. 19 and Saturday, Apr. 20 in Atlanta, Ga.
