ATLANTA – The University of North Georgia women's track and field team had a pair of first place finishers at the CAU Panther Invitational hosted by Clark Atlanta University Saturday.
The Nighthawks not only had two winners but also located five top-five finishes at the meet held at CAU Panther Stadium.
In the women's 800 meter race, senior Claire Mills won the event, finishing with a blazing 2:26.42 time. In just two meets this year, Mills already has a pair of wins under her belt. She won the women's 1500 meter race at the Victor Icebreaker Duals last week as well.
In the 1500 meter race this week, Mills came in second with a time of 4:50.06. It surely didn't bother head coach Chris England much to see Mills finish in second for the event as her teammate, junior Ella Stoudenmire, was just a second ahead of her.
Stoudenmire finished in first in the 1500 meter with a 4:49.34 time, marking her first win of the season. Junior Anna Chasteen was also not far behind her teammates in the 1500 meter race, finishing in fourth place with a time of 5:01.84.
The fifth top-five finish of the day for UNG belonged to freshman Adi Myers. The Braselton, Ga. native finished in fourth place in the women's 5000 meter race, as Myers crossed the finish line with a time of 19:49.05.
Senior Ashley Pope also recorded a top-10 finish with a time of 20:42.94 in the 5000 meter event.
After their second good showing of the year, the Nighthawks will be off to Jacksonville, Fla. for the Bob Hayes Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida. The two day event begins all day on Friday, Mar. 15 at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium and will conclude on Saturday, Mar. 16.
