MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17 University of North Georgia rifle team took on No. 17 Army in a neutral site competition at the West Virginia University Rifle Range on Sunday. Despite coming up on the short end of a 4679-4643 decision, the Nighthawks proved they are equal to the challenge as they wrapped up a two-match road swing with a 1-1 record.
Elysa Walter was the top performer with her 582 smallbore and 591 air rifle scores combining for a match-best 1172 aggregate total. Her air rifle score was second best in the competition and included a perfect 100 string in the fifth relay.
Maya Cameron (573 SB, 586 AR – 1159),
Alysa Yancey (576 SB, 582 AR – 1158),
Courtney Allison (566 SB, 585 AR – 1151) and
Jaden-Ann Fraser (582 SB) all posted top-10 finishes for the Nighthawks.
Army held a 33-point advantage after smallbore and was able to hold off the Nighthawks by edging North Georgia 2349-2346 in air rifle.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 when the Nighthawks face off against Wofford at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.
