CLEVELAND, Tenn — An eighth-place finish for the University of North Georgia women's golf team finishes the second tournament of the fall season as the Nighthawks competed against a high level of competition at the NCAA Division II South Regional Preview, hosted by Lee at the Cleveland Country Club.
UNG had one of the best rounds of the day by any team in the third round, moving up two spots on the leaderboard with a third-round team score of 296. Freshman
Abby Franks led the way for the Nighthawks, earning a spot in a tie for 13th place after with a seven-over overall score, ending with a pair of one-over 73's in the second and third rounds.
Amari Smith was second on the team, finishing in a tie for 20th, adding a third-round 73 of her own, ending at nine-over-par overall. Playing as an individual,
Jadin Ware finished next, earning a tie for 46th with a score of 17-over in the event. Her 74 in the final round was her best round of the tournament.
Camryn Wright finished one stroke behind Ware, finishing in a tie for 49th after a pair of four-over-par 76s in the second and third rounds.
Danielle Humphrey finished in a tie for 56th, while
Ellie Rippee earned a spot in a tie for 60th.
No. 3 Nova Southeastern shot a 289 in the final round to win by eight strokes after opening the final round in fourth place. No. 7 Anderson and No. 11 Lee tied for second place with an 891. There were seven teams in the field ranked in the WGCA Top 25.
Ellen Andersson of Nova Southeastern led the 90-player field wire-to-wire and finished with a two-under 214 (69-72-73).
North Georgia will move on and host the 10th Annual Leeann Noble Memorial at the Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega. The event will feature another highly competitive field as Anderson, Carson-Newman, Columbus State, Findlay, Florida Southern, Lander, Lee, Limestone, Lincoln Memorial, Saint Leo, USC Beaufort, West Florida, West Georgia and Wingate all head to the mountains for the three-round event on Oct. 9-10.
