YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Opening up its 2023 slate, the University of North Georgia women's cross country team finished third overall but first among NCAA Division II programs, placing
Emily McBride (4th) and
Claire Mills (7th) among the top ten finishers.
McBride finished with a time of 15:49.8, seven seconds away from second place. Mills clocked a time of 16:06.6, just ahead of three runners from Western Carolina and UNC Asheville in 8th, 9th and 10th.
A top 15 finish for freshman
Adi Myers kicked off a solid start to her first season as a Nighthawk, recording a time of 16:26.3. In 25th and 26th,
Anna Chasteen (16:48.3) and
Ella Stoudenmire (16:50.6) rounded out the top five Nighthawks.
Newcomers
Grace Opsahl (33rd) and
Nealeigh Broadwell (39th) crossed the line next with times of 17:07.3 and 17:20.04 before
Elissa Oliver (41st),
Ashley Pope (56th) and
Maggie Davidson (57th) finished the day for UNG at the YHC XC Opener.
