INDIANAPOLIS - For the third year in a row and the third time in program history, the No. 4 University of North Georgia men's golf team has earned a bid to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional as announced by the national office Friday afternoon.
North Georgia claimed the No. 2 seed out of the Southeast and will advance to the regional tournament set for May 11-13 at
Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Florida.
Other teams earning a bid from the Southeast include, in order, No. 1 Anderson (SC), No. 9 Georgia Southwestern, No. 10 Clayton State, No. 11 Lincoln Memorial, No. 23 Barton, No. 25 Lander, No. 13 Carson-Newman, Limestone, USC Aiken. Martin Gruendemann (Columbus State), Killian Ryan (Coker), Bernard Meyer (Columbus State) and Tom Bastow (Erskine)
were the four individuals out of the Southeast region to earn qualifying spots.
Out of the South will be No. 2 Lee, No. 3 Barry, No. 5 West Florida, No. 7 Nova Southeastern, No. 15 University of Tampa, No. 24 Saint Leo, Shorter, Lynn, Florida Southern and Spring Hill. JJ Zimmer (Union, Tenn.), Andrew Riley (Palm Beach Atlantic), JJ Logue (Mississippi College) and Pongbhop Jamornsrianan (Delta State) were the four individuals out of the South region to earn qualifying spots.
In total, 14 teams in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) top 25 rankings and eight of the top ten teams in the country will play in the regional all battling for a chance to advance to the national championships. The top six teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals May 22-26 at Avalon Lakes Country Club in Warren, Ohio.
