COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 22 University of North Georgia men's tennis team kicks off their Peach Belt Conference tournament appearance against the five-seeded Augusta Jaguars on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. The Nighthawks look to rebound from a pair of losses in their last two matches, hoping to advance to the conference semifinals for the third straight season.
It will be the second meeting of the season between the Nighthawks and Jaguars, with UNG pulling away with a 6-1 victory in their first matchup on Mar. 29. The winner of the quarterfinal match will take on top-seeded Columbus State in the semifinals on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Players to Watch
Joaquin Benoit has been a staple for the Nighthawks, ranking and earning his third first-team All-Conference selection in singles and his third overall in doubles this season. Benoit owns a record of 11-4 this season, playing all 15 matches in the top singles flight for North Georgia.
Cole Brainard earned All-Conference honors in doubles alongside Benoit, as the two earned a record of 14-1 in the top doubles flight of each match, finishing conference play with a 5-0 record and winning all three doubles matches against ranked opponents. Brainard holds a conference record of 3-2 in singles playing three matches in the second flight, holding a record of 2-1.
