DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia men's basketball team got a pair of double-doubles from
Frank Champion and
Eric Jones on the way to a 72-60 win over Georgia Southwestern Wednesday night inside the Convocation Center.
After a back-and-forth, low scoring first half that saw both teams combine for 18-of-55 from the floor, North Georgia's offense woke up the second half, storming out of the halftime break on a 24-11 run to take a 48-34 lead. The Nighthawks stretched their lead out to as many as 18 with just over six minutes to play, but the Hurricanes did not go quietly, keeping the game within reach up to the final horn.
NOTES
- With the win, head coach
Dan Evans claimed his 100th career win as a head coach after capturing 76 wins at his first stop as head coach, Ohio Dominican.
- Champion led all scorers with 20 points while Jones added 12. Both players had 13 boards.
Kody Shubert contributed 15 points, while
Malik Hardy scored 11 in his first action of the 2021-22 season.
- North Georgia was +24 on the glass tonight, outrebounding GSW 51-27.
