No. 10 Men's Tennis Falls in Regional Final to Top Ranked Columbus State

DAHLONEGA - The No. 10 University of North Georgia men's tennis team had upsets on the mind, but No. 1 Columbus State was able to survive and advance by virtue of a 4-0 win Sunday afternoon, earning the Cougars the spot in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships in Surprise, Arizona.

North Georgia battled in doubles action, leading on all three courts early on, but CSU responded to win 6-3 at both No. 1 and No. 3 to take the doubles point.

The Nighthawks again came out quick to take early leads across multiple singles lines, but again Columbus State answered by taking every first set. The Cougars earned wins at the third, fourth and fifth lines to clinch the match.

UNG staved off multiple match points on the top two lines as Ryan Gaskin stormed back to keep the match alive after trailing 4-1 in the second set. Joaquin Benoit was down 5-2 in the second set before climbing back to 5-4 before the match finished.

The Nighthawks made it to the round of 16 for just the second time in program history.
