DAHLONEGA - Trailing by three in the bottom of the ninth, the No. 25 University of North Georgia baseball team came back to tie it up and force extras, but Young Harris found three runs in the top of the 10th to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Peach Belt semifinal series with a 10-7 win Friday night.
YHC struck first with a RBI groundout in the fourth, but North Georgia answered immediately with a
Andres Perez laser that gave UNG a 2-1 lead. The Nighthawks kept it going in the frame, scoring on RBI singles from
Nik Levensteins and
Will Hardigree to push the lead to 4-1.
After the Mountain Lions homered in the fifth, eighth and ninth to take a 7-4 lead, UNG got RBI singles from
Crews Taylor and
Tim Conway, both with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, to tie the game up at 7-7. YHC pushed three across in the 10th on a sacrifice fly, a RBI single and a RBI double to take game one.
NOTES
- The 10-inning affair was the first extra innings game for UNG since February 28, 2020, a 7-4 loss in 11 to Georgia College. UNG and YHC had never played an extra innings game against each other until Friday night.

Cade Heil got a no-decision after scattering two runs, five hits and two walks across seven innings. He fanned five Mountain Lions along the way.

North Georgia will look to rebound and force the "If Necessary" game with a 2 p.m. start tomorrow afternoon. If UNG wins, the third game of the series will take place 30 minutes after.
