DAHLONEGA - The No. 17 University of North Georgia women's tennis team fell short in the regional semifinals Monday afternoon as eighth-ranked Flagler advanced on to the Southeast Region championship with a 4-2 win.
North Georgia came out and took the doubles point as
Anna Markvartova and
Annie Adams teamed up on the second line to win, 6-2.
Vaishali Jorge and
Johanna Lippert took the top line over the 24th-ranked doubles duo in the country, 6-4, to clinch the point.
Lippert continued the momentum with a win on the sixth line, 6-0, 6-4, before the Saints battled back. Flagler tied the match with wins on the top two lines, both in straight sets, and took a 3-2 lead with a three-set win at No. 5. Flagler clinched the match with a comeback win on the third line in the third set.
North Georgia's run to the regional semifinals marks the fourth time in a row that UNG has made it to at least the round of 32.
