Lander Takes Series From Nighthawks With 7-2 Win

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander earned a series win over the University of North Georgia baseball team on Sunday afternoon with a 7-3 victory at LU's Dolny Field.

Lander took an early strike on the scoreboard, plating an unearned run in the first inning followed by a sacrifice fly in the third to push out in front, 2-0.

North Georgia answered in the sixth as Crews Taylor drew a two-out walk and then scored from first on an Andres Perez double to left to cut the lead in half.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Bearcats pushed three more across in the seventh, two of which came off a single from Mike Fitschen, but again the Nighthawks fought back in the next frame. After a leadoff walk to Chase Sudduth, Lander got two outs before UNG loaded the bases and scored two runs on a Steven Tomlinson single to get the score to 5-3.

But Lander answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, increasing its lead to 7-3, fueled by a single, walk and a sacrifice bunt.

NOTES
- North Georgia falls to 29-18 overall and 16-11 in the PBC, while Lander improves to 16-32 overall and finished league play at 9-21.

- The series loss broke a string of six straight series wins for the Nighthawks.

- Andres Perez and Steven Tomlinson were the only Nighthawks to collect multiple hits as the duo combined for four of North Georgia' six hits.  Conner Corbitt and William Mapes each added a hit to the ledger.

- Kyle Luigs evened his record at 3-3 after a solid five and two thirds innings of work in which he allowed just a single earned run while striking out four.
