DAHLONEGA — Behind a stellar pitching performance by Jalen Scott, the University of North Georgia baseball team fell to Winston-Salem State in game two, 7-1, Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
Almost immediately, WSSU put pressure on the Nighthawks from the first inning to the last. The Rams laced together three singles and a double to put their mark on the board in the first frame, 1-0, followed by a solo shot in the fifth from Randy Norris to extend their lead 2-0.
UNG offense fought back in the same frame to cut the lead in half.
Bill LeRoy boarded the bases after a hit by pitch, and advanced to second off an infield single from
Steven Tomlinson. With runners on first and second,
Nick Clarno's RBI groundout scored the first and only run of the contest for the Nighthawks.
More RBI singles from Winston-Salem extended the lead to 4-1 into the eighth, and improved to 6-1 after a two-run bomb over left from Cole Parks. Brandon Ford blasted a shot to right that forced a Nighthawk error in the ninth to get the 7-1 win.
