AUGUSTA, Ga. - Behind a 3-for-4 day at the plate for
Bill LeRoy, the University of North Georgia baseball team completed the series sweep of Augusta with a 6-5 win over the Jaguars Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Augusta jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play before the Nighthawks began scoring in the third. After
Andres Perez reached and advanced on an error, LeRoy drove him home on a single to center. In the fourth,
Chase Sudduth singled after
Joshua Profit's two-out double to cut the lead to 3-2.
North Georgia tied the game with another two-out double in the fifth as
Jake Arnold drove home
Conner Corbitt before
William Mapes plated Arnold with a RBI single to give UNG a 4-3 lead. The Nighthawks extended their lead in the seventh after LeRoy led the inning off with a double that was immediately followed by a
Steven Tomlinson RBI single to increase the score to 5-3.
The Jaguars did not go quietly as they tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Nighthawks scored the game-winning run on a Perez single right after a Sudduth triple in the top of the eighth. Augusta had runners on second and third with two out in the bottom of the ninth, but
Parker Morrison shut the door, striking out Harrison Moore to clinch the sweep.
