DAHLONEGA - Cade Heil threw a complete game, keeping the potent Georgia College offense at bay for most of the evening, but the Bobcats pushed two early runs across and held on for a 2-1 win over the University of North Georgia baseball team Friday night at Bob Stein Stadium.
The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the first, getting a run off a two-out North Georgia error to take a 1-0 lead. After Heil ended the inning with a pickoff, Brandon Purcell started the second inning with a homer to center field, doubling the Georgia College lead.
Both teams went quiet offensively as Heil and his counterpart, Charlie Hecht, worked through the opposition's respective lineup with relative ease. North Georgia got to Hecht in the seventh when
Nick Clarno hit a one-out bomb to left center to cut the lead in half, 2-1. The Nighthawks couldn't get another run, though, as Bradley Cammack came in to close out the game, retiring the final six UNG batters to earn his second save of the season.
NOTES
-
Chase Sudduth led the Nighthawks at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and a single.
- Heil's complete game was the third of his career, giving up just seven hits and one earned run. He struck out three Bobcats.
- Georgia College was held to two runs or less for just the second time this season as they average almost 10 runs per game. The Bobcats were held to just one run against then-No. 2 Tampa in an 11-1 loss back on February 11.
