AIKEN, S.C. – A five-run sixth inning, powered by back-to-back home runs from
Conner Corbitt and
Bill LeRoy, paced the University of North Georgia baseball team to a 9-3 win over USC Aiken Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Pacers got started in the bottom of the first on a RBI single, but the Nighthawks answered in the top of the third when Corbitt brought home
Chase Sudduth to tie the game, 1-1.
North Georgia took the lead for the first time in the fourth inning on a
William Mapes solo shot and then extended the lead in the sixth. After a leadoff walk to
Jake Howard and a
Steven Tomlinson double, Sudduth singled to left to score both Nighthawks and increase the lead to 4-1.
Two batters later, Corbitt got his second and third RBI of the game on a two-run bomb just before LeRoy took the second pitch of his at-bat and sent it over the wall, giving UNG a 7-1 lead.
The Pacers answered with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the sixth, cutting into the North Georgia lead just before
Andres Perez scored Tomlinson in the seventh to give the Nighthawks an 8-3 advantage. Sudduth's single in the ninth inning that scored Mapes got the game to its final score.

Logan Burt earned the win in relief, throwing three innings and striking out four.
- Perez finished the day 4-for-6 at the plate, tallying an RBI as well.
- This is the first UNG win in Aiken since 2012 when the Nighthawks won, 14-6, on February 12, 2012.
