UNG Softball to Host 20th Anniversary Celebration on Alumni Day This Saturday

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The University of North Georgia softball team will officially celebrate its first 20 seasons as an intercollegiate program this Saturday as the 17th-ranked Nighthawks will take on Young Harris in the Battle of Blood Mountain series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

"The tradition of softball at the University of North Georgia has been built by some incredible young ladies throughout the past 20 years," head coach Mike Davenport said. "We love having the opportunity to welcome back our alumni to campus each year and to be able to honor the first 20 seasons of our program.  Saturday will be a special day of recognition for a lot of hard work from hundreds of individuals. It is also a great chance to see what incredible women our program has produced over the years."

All alumni from the first 20 years of the program in attendance will be recognized on the field in between games of the doubleheader. UNG will also recognize the numerous achievements of its nationally acclaimed softball program throughout the day.

The team will host a special reception for its alumni in attendance prior to the start of the first game.

In addition to alumni day, UNG will host #FlexForLex – Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday, April 11 in the team's doubleheader against Union (Tenn.). This event will help support former Armstrong State softball standout Alexis Mercer. All fans are encouraged to wear pink that day as the Nighthawks will. The team will honor both those who have survived and those who have been lost to cancer.
