MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a battle of top-20 team, the No. 18 University of North Georgia men's tennis team was able to prevail with a 6-3 Peach Belt Conference road win over No. 11 Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at GC's Centennial Center Tennis Courts. The win is the sixth consecutive for the Nighthawks and ties the program record for best start to a season.
The Nighthawks took the top two doubles lines before claiming four of six singles matches.
Niklas Zielen, ranked seventh nationally in singles, and
Alexander Reinauer, ranked 16th in singles, combined to win half of UNG's six points with wins in the top two singles flight and No. 1 doubles.
Zielen rebounded from dropping the first set to claim a three-set singles win at No. 1.
Andre Canino and
Lukas Moritzen also posted singles and doubles victories to account for the other three points. Canino rallied from a set down at No. 4 singles to earn a point, while Mortzen breezed to a win in the sixth singles line.
The duo also teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The loss drops Georgia College to 2-2, 1-1 PBC on the season.
