MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The University of North Georgia men's basketball team led for over 20 minutes of play against second-ranked nationally Queens, but the Royals pulled away with five minutes to play to squeak past the Nighthawks, 81-70, Saturday afternoon in the Bobcat Crossover Classic.
North Georgia took the lead with 12:49 left in the first half and led the Royals until the 13:42 mark in the second half. For the next seven minutes, the Nighthawks went back-and-forth with Queens with neither team leading by more than six points until after the final media timeout. UNG led by as many as nine during the 20-minute stretch.
NOTES
- North Georgia had three players finish in double figures, led by
Shaquan Cantrell's 21 points on 7-11 shooting.
Ephraim Tshimanga and
Tyler Dominy each contributed 10 points.
- The game saw seven lead changes and two ties. Both teams had success in the paint with Queens holding a slight 26-24 advantage inside.
- Queens extends the all-time series lead to 3-0 over the Nighthawks.
