FLORENCE, S.C. | The University of North Georgia baseball team plated two runs in the ninth inning but ultimately lost a closely contested game to Georgia College, 4-2, in Pool A action in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Thursday night. North Georgia falls to 1-1 in pool play with the loss and to 31-20 in 2016.

The Bobcats plated the first three runs of the game in the sixth inning. After the first two batters of the inning were sat down, Logan Mattix started the rally with a single up the middle. After another single, Dylan Cook brought home Mattix on a RBI single to center field. On the next pitch, Brandon Purcell doubled to left field to make the score 2-0. The Bobcats added a third run on a wild pitch, putting them up, 3-0.

Georgia College scored their final run in the eighth on a Purcell single to center before UNG started its comeback, trailing 4-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Nighthawks loaded the bases on two hit batsmen and a
Connor Hoover single. With two outs,
Trevor Sams reached on a fielding error by the Bobcat shortstop, scoring both
Erick Delgado and
Devin Gearhart. The game ended moments later though as the Bobcats' second baseman caught a hard-hit liner by
Steven Tomlinson to end the game with a 4-2 final score.

NOTES
- North Georgia was held to two hits by the Peach Belt Pitcher of the Year Cameron Busby. Busby threw a complete game, striking out three batters and giving up no earned runs.

Daniel McCrary (5-4) was tabbed with the loss after throwing 5.2 innings and giving up three runs. The sophomore held Georgia College to just one hit through the first five innings of play.

- Delgado finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored.

The Nighthawks will finish Pool A play tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. as they take on Augusta University for the first time this season.
