Poole Tosses Back-to-Back No-Hitters; No. 11 Softball Sweeps GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. | Courtney Poole has set numerous school and conference records in her time with the University of North Georgia softball team, but the senior joined a very limited club on Wednesday afternoon, pitching back-to-back no-hitters at Georgia Southwestern. The Nighthawks defeated the Hurricanes 3-0 in the first game of the day before cruising by GSW, 9-0, in game two.

Poole, who has won Peach Belt Pitcher of the Week for four consecutive weeks, now has three career no-hitters and two perfect games. The UNG ace was also the pitcher of record in two additional combined no-hitters.

GAME ONE
Meagan May sparked the North Georgia offense in the second with a bunt single to leadoff the inning. She would go on to steal second and come home to score on a RBI double down the left field line by Hannah McSwain, to put the Nighthawks up, 1-0.

North Georgia added some insurance in the fifth as Jessica Finch smacked a double to left to score Stephanie Hartness and later in the frame, Brittani Crawford drove in Whitney Worth from third with a sacrifice fly to left that gave UNG the 3-0 advantage that proved final.

GAME TWO
Crawford started off the scoring in game two with a RBI single to center that brought in Hartness to give the Nighthawks an early 1-0 lead in the first. UNG added another run in the second when Hartness put a double into the left center gap to score Alexis Collis.

North Georgia doubled its lead in the fourth with a two-run double from Hartness that plated McSwain and Collis to give the Nighthawks a 4-0 lead.

The UNG bats finally came alive in the top of the fifth as the Nighthawks scored five runs on a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch, two runs would score on a triple down the right field line by Kahlert and Kahlert would come in to score herself on an RBI groundout by Finch, giving North Georgia the 9-0 advantage.
