MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of North Georgia men's basketball team snapped its 10-game slide in dramatic fashion with a 91-90 overtime win at Montevallo on Saturday afternoon in UM's Trustmark Arena. The Nighthawks used six points from
Sean Brennan in the final 14 seconds of regulation and a buzzer-beater from
Juan Rivas to steal the victory.
North Georgia trailed by four (80-76) with just 14 seconds in regulation, but forced the extra period with an old-fashioned 3-point play by Brennan and, after a pair of UM free throws, a long 3-pointer with just one tick left.
In overtime, neither team was able to lead by more than a possession and the score was tied at 88 apiece with just eight seconds left.
Roderick English gave UNG a one-point lead with a free throw, but UM's Bryant Orange pushed the Falcons back on top with two free throws of his own after being fouled on the rebound after English missed the second attempt.
Juan Rivas made the game's final play with a driving layup in the middle of the paint as the horn sounded, giving the Nighthawks the victory.
Brennan finished with a career-high 30 points on 10-of-13 from the floor. The junior guard added eight rebounds and four assists.
Rivas ended the night with 19 points and eight rebounds.
T.J. Williams added 14 points, while
Ebo Smith and English added 11 and 10 respectively to give UNG five double-figure scorers.
Terrell Lipkins led Montevallo with 27 points as the Falcons fall to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in PBC play.
North Georgia improves to 5-18, 3-11 PBC.
NOTES- Rivas added 3-of-7 from 3-point land and a trio of blocks, both season-highs.
- The Nighthawks trailed by eight (47-35) at the break, but flipped the score in the second 20 minutes to force the dramatic finish.
- The win snapped Montevallo's seven-game winning streak and avenged a one-point loss to the Falcons on Jan. 27 in Memorial Hall.
