ORLANDO, Fla. | Courtney Poole had a dominant day in the circle helping lead the No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team to a pair of 8-0 run-rule victories over Queens (N.Y.) and Dominican (N.Y.), with each game lasting six innings.
GAME ONEThe Nighthawks got off to a great start with a three-up, three-down frame in the top of the first and followed with a
Jessica Finch RBI single and a
Meredith Heyer two-run home run to center to give UNG a 3-0 lead in the bottom frame of the first.
Stephanie Hartness provided another spark in the second with a triple off the right field wall scoring
Brittani Crawford and
Katie Block, then Hartness came in to score herself on a throwing error by the right fielder attempting to throw out Hartness at third.
Kelly Kahlert drove in
Kaycie Oakley with a RBI triple to right in the fourth to add to the North Georgia lead, 7-0.
The Nighthawks finally got the eighth run needed for the run-rule victory in walk off style as
Katie Block delivered a long ball to left to end the game, 8-0.
GAME TWOFor the third time this weekend, Heyer provided the offensive spark to get North Georgia on the board first delivering a double to left center to plate Hartness for the first run of the game.
After loading the bases with no outs, UNG used a RBI infield single by
Hannah McSwain followed by RBI groundouts from
Meagan May and Hartness to extend the lead to 4-0 in the second.
Kahlert extended the North Georgia lead to 6-0 with a two-run down the right field line in the third. Heyer scored one more in the fifth on a double steal play and May would provide an RBI single to shortstop in the sixth to give UNG the 8-0 lead that provided final.
NOTES-
Meredith Heyer continued her hot weekend leading the Nighthawks at the plate with a combined 3-for-4 day including a double and a home run with three runs batted in.

Katie Block and
Kelly Kahlert each added home runs on the day as well, with Block's home run serving as a run-rule walk off in the bottom of the sixth in the Queens game.
- Poole (8-0) allowed a total of three hits on the day in 11.0 innings pitched with 20 total strikeouts.
