DAHLONEGA | A seven-run eighth inning propelled Kentucky Wesleyan to an 11-8 win over the 15th-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team Sunday afternoon.
North Georgia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third after
Trevor Sams hit his first home run of the season to right center.
After a Panther run in the top of the fourth,
Joshua Profit hit his first home run of the year, scoring two more Nighthawk runs to make it 7-1.
Kentucky Wesleyan proceeded to score two in the sixth on a Nathan Stemle sacrifice fly and a Jacob Snodgrass double. The Panthers scored one more in the seventh after loading the bases early in the inning.
In the eighth, the Panthers scored their seven runs off just one hit. North Georgia committed two errors and walked four batters in the inning. Two more Panthers were hit by a pitch, allowing them to reach base.
North Georgia falls to 6-2 with the loss while Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 4-2.
NOTES- Profit led the Nighthawks at the plate, going 2-for-5. Sams went 1-for-5 with three RBI, giving him 12 in the season.
- Austin Tibbs improved to 1-1 after being given the win in a relief appearance. The loss was credited to
Josh Bryan, who falls to 0-1 on the season.
Daniel McCrary was given a no decision after starting the game for North Georgia. He struck out five and walked one in five innings of work.
NEXT UPThe Nighthawks hit the road for the first time this season as they open up Peach Belt Conference play against Georgia Southwestern in Americus. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday to open the three-game series. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
