MORROW, Ga. | Mathlide Baartvedt collected the clinching point at No. 4 singles as the University of North Georgia women's tennis team secured its fifth straight win with a 5-4 Peach Belt Conference victory over Clayton State. North Georgia improves to 7-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play and will look to event its record tomorrow with a league match at Montevallo.
The Nighthawks got off to a quick start with a pair of victories in the doubles lines, breezing to 8-3 and 8-2 victories in the second and third doubles lines respectively.
After UNG's
Simone Krog pushed the lead to 3-1 with an easy 6-0, 6-2 win over Alina Agiechik at sixth singles, Clayton State's Hannah Keeling downed
Felicia Baratta, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to cut back into the Nighthawks' lead.
Rita Kaldawi's 7-5, 6-3 win over Maria Mendes at No. 3 singles secured the pivotal fourth point for North Georgia before Baartvedt finished off the match with a 7-6, 6-4 win at fourth singles.
The win is North Georgia's fifth straight and marks the first-ever five-match winning streak in a single season in program history.
