DAHLONEGA | The University of North Georgia baseball team had an impressive day in a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Georgia Southwestern, 9-2 and 7-1. The Nighthawks advance to 6-4 on the season with a 2-0 mark in Peach Belt play.

Game OneAfter two scoreless innings to open the game, the Nighthawks put up a big crooked number in the third inning with some small ball. Four runs came across to score, including two off a two-run single through the right side by
Devin Gearhart, giving UNG a 4-0 advantage.

North Georgia added four runs the next inning, all-coming from a
Sam Tidaback grand slam home run to give the Nighthawks an 8-0 lead.

The Hurricanes would push across a run in the top of the fifth, but UNG answered back in the bottom frame of the inning when
Joey Cecere scored Gearhart from second on an RBI single to left.

Southwestern added a run in the top of the eighth to give the game its final score, 9-2.

Brandon Agar (2-2) picked up the win for the Nighthawks tossing 7.0 innings allowing one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts. Agar and reliever
Chris Cobb went the combined distance without issuing a free pass.

Kyle Romstadt was tagged with the loss for the Hurricanes, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

Game TwoNorth Georgia picked up where they left off in the second game of the day, scoring a single run in the first, second and fourth innings, including the first home run of the season for
Andrew Gordon in the second.

UNG added three more runs in the fifth inning.
Connor Hoover and
Steven Tomlinson came home to score on a sacrifice bunt attempt from
Kevin Krupp that saw a throwing error from the GSW pitcher down the right field line. Krupp advanced all the way to third on the play and would come home himself on a sacrifice fly RBI from
Trevor Sams.

Joey Cecere would provide a little extra insurance in the sixth with a sacrifice fly RBI of his own, driving in Gearhart to give UNG the 7-0 lead.

Jacob Beauchamp (3-0) collected the win with an impressive outing, tossing 6.0 shutout innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out six.

Earl Dupree (0-2) was charged with the loss for Georgia Southwestern.
