MORROW, Ga. | The University of North Georgia men's basketball team's comeback effort fell just short Saturday afternoon, falling to Clayton State (9-4, 3-3 Peach Belt), 86-84. The Nighthawks slip to 11-2 and 5-1 in conference play. The loss snaps North Georgia's eighth-game winning streak.

UNG came out of the gate strong, leading by as many as nine on two occasions in the first half, the last coming at the 8:47 mark. The Lakers would make a run of their own late though to take a 45-43 lead into the break.

The second half would see the lead change hands a few more times with Clayton State stretching their lead to seven at multiple points down the stretch. North Georgia battled back though nearly retaking the lead in the final minute, pulling within a point.

Tanner Plemmons led the UNG in scoring with 17 points aided by a 5-for-7 day from the three-point line. Saiquan Terry posted 26 points to lead the Laker effort.

The Nighthawks will close out the four-game conference road swing on Wednesday, taking on Columbus State at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
