Biography

How Lunsford got to UNG
Ava Lunsford landed in Dahlonega after transferring from NCAA Division I Western Kentucky. The Elberton, Ga. native returned to her home state after spending her freshman season with the Hilltoppers. Lunsford saw limited action as a utility player for WKU. She participated in five games and only registered two at bats. However, Lunsofrd brings an impressive career from her high school days at Elbert County High School. It was there that she won a 2022 regional championship and was subsequently named the 8-A Region Player of the Year. She was also named to the GACA All-State First Team that season. Lunsford's success in softball went beyond her school grounds as she played club ball for Mojo-Lunsford and was coached by her father, Mike. The father daughter duo led Mojo-Lunsford to three Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) National Championships. Lunsford also won a state championship in basketball in 2022 at Elbert County. She said, "UNG really stuck out to me because I already knew and loved the coaches, I knew that the team has a winning mentality, loved the beautiful campus, and love that I can stay closer to home while pursuing an education and playing the sport I love."
