How Earnhardt got to UNG
Luke Earnhardt has transferred to UNG after spending his first season at NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State. Earnhardt made six relief appearances on the mound for the Blue Raiders last season. The left-handed pitcher held a 6.75 ERA and struck out a pair of batters in four innings of work. Earnhardt's connection to UNG and college athletics began long before his own career started last season. Luke's sister, Josie, played for head coach Buffie Burson on the women's basketball team from 2020-2023 and was a member of the Nighthawk team that reached the NCAA Final Four in 2022. Josie is now an assistant women's basketball coach at Barry University. All three Earnhardt siblings have played collegiate athletics as Luke's brother, Dallas, also played football and baseball at Emory & Henry. The trio followed the footsteps of their father, Dale, who played football at Wake Forest and is the current Director of Athletics at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School where Luke went to school. Earnhardt said he was convinced to transfer to UNG when he visited campus. "Once I stepped foot on campus and met the coaches I knew this was the place I wanted to be and it gave me the best opportunity to continue my athletic and academic career," said Earnhardt.
