DAHLONEGA – Senior Joaquin Benoit of the University of North Georgia men's tennis team has been named as the Peach Belt Conference men's tennis Player of the Week as announced Monday by the league. The award, Benoit's fourth of his career, comes after the Mara del Plata, Argentina native picked up a pair of ranked wins despite a team loss for UNG at No. 2 Flagler.
Benoit had himself a day against the Saints. In the #1 doubles match, he worked with junior teammate Robin Eldin to take down ITA men's doubles No. 17 Phillip Lemken and Simon Malis 6-3.
Then in the #1 singles match, Benoit doubled down with a win over No. 11 Jacopo Denitto in convincing fashion 6-2, 6-1. Benoit is now 9-2 in singles play this year with an 8-3 record in doubles play.
The pair of ranked wins mark the third and fourth such victories for Benoit this season.
He may get the opportunity to add to that total this week when the Nighthawks take on No. 25 Hawaii Pacific in Macon, Ga. on Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m. The Sharks currently hold the ITA men's singles No. 68 competitor and men's doubles No. 13 pairing in the country.
