TOCCOA, Ga. — Playing 27 holes on the opening day, the No. 1 University of North Georgia men's golf team leads the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate by ten strokes at the halfway point, shooting a team score of 290 to finish the halfway point at six-under-par.
The Nighthawks sat in second after the first round but put on a signature run in the first nine holes of the second, shooting eight-under as a team, carding 12 birdies and two eagles.
Noah Zediker leads the 79-player field picking up three straight birdies in the second round to move to seven-under-par for sole possession of first place.
Stephen Kinsel sits in a tie for fifth after a one-under-par day. Kinsel shot even-par in the first round, picking up a stroke in the second.
Jack Vajda is the third of three Nighthawks in the top ten, sitting in a tie for ninth at one-over-par.
Ethan Day and
Hughes Threlkeld round out the North Georgia golfers, with Day in a tie for 19th and Threlkeld tied for 28th, with both Nighthawks picking up eagles on the tenth hole in the second round to help UNG increase the lead.
No. 3 Lincoln Memorial sits in second and Wingate next, with Columbus State and Flagler rounding out the top five teams.
