The University of North Georgia Department of Athletics' main offices are located in Memorial Hall on the Dahlonega campus. The Nighthawks compete at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Peach Belt Conference, sponsoring 13 intercollegiate sports, including the addition of women's track & field in 2016-17. UNG currently offers five men's sports, seven women's sports and mixed rifle, which competes as a member of the Southern Conference (NCAA Division I).
The senior leadership team was restructured in the summer of 2021 and was organized into three divisions - business, internal and external - with the primary goal of servant leadership of the 200+ student-athletes and 50+ coaches/staff. In the summer of 2017, the department added an Assistant Athletic Director, Student Services through a NCAA Diversity grant. The leadership restructure is an effort to streamline administrative decision-making while also providing increased leadership opportunities and creating greater departmental efficiencies. The structure also promotes collaboration across departmental units and all 13 intercollegiate sports to better serve our student-athletes.
