AUGUSTA, Ga. - Coming off of a third-place finish at the UNCP Battle at Old South, University of North Georgia women's golfer
Jordyn Sims was named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. This is her first Golfer of the Week award in her collegiate career.
Sims set the UNG 36-hole scoring record as she tied for third at the season-opening tournament Sunday. The sophomore from Berkley Lake, Ga., shot a 71 in the opening round an 73 in round two for an even-par 144. Her opening round 71 is the second-best in school history and only the second under par score in the eight-year history of the program. Sims helped UNG to a ninth-place finish in the 18-team field.
Earlier this week, the UNG Athletic Department also awarded Sims as the Steak 'n Shake Nighthawk of the Week.
Sims and the women's golf team will be back in action October 9 and 10 at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College.
